The next major clean-up event to be organised by the Cronton Pathways Project will take place over two days in November when the vegetation starts to die back revealing litter that has been 'hidden' during the summer months. The decision to hold the Autumn Clean-Up over two days is so that agencies like the LA, Environment and Highways can take part during the working week and any volunteers who are not able to participate during the week can join in on the Saturday. Knowsley Council have provided us with a supply of bags, gloves and litter-pickers. Volunteers should meet for either of the two days at 10.00 am on the Holy Family car park on Hall Lane. If you are able to give one or two hours of your time it would be of immense help towards continuing to provide the best environment possible for the whole community. Thank you to all those who gave of their time and energy in helping to keep the Cronton area more of a litter-free zone on November 12th & 13th.
We decided this autumn to focus mainly on the newly gated Sandy Lane where years of littering and fly-tipping had blighted an otherwise beautiful lane. In total fifty bags of litter were collected plus a variety of items from tyres to shower units! Other areas targeted over the two days were Cronton Road and Cronton Pasture. The BTCV team targeted the clearance of litter from Pex Hill and Cronton Quarry. We were delighted to welcome the help of a group of apprentices led by Groundwork UK and facilitated by Knowsley Council. They have started work on improvements to the pathways and cycle paths on Norlands Lane. Their commitment and hard work is very much appreciated and we look forward to working with them in the months to come. Thank you to the children of Cronton Holy Family School and Cronton C of E School who took part in the Cronton Pathways poster competition advertising the Cronton Autumn Clean-Up. The Cronton Pathways group (an extension of the Cronton Clean-Up Campaign) meets on a monthly basis and then targets particular ‘litter spots’. We are always keen to welcome volunteers.
