Community Projects

Over the past few years, CleanupUK has worked ‘on the ground’ in London and Birmingham with people who live in areas that suffer especially high levels of litter.

In London, we have worked with communities in the boroughs of: Barking & Dagenham, Camden, Enfield, Greenwich, Hackney, Haringey, Islington, Lewisham, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest. In Birmingham, we have worked in the wards of Aston, Bordesley Green, Kingstanding, Shard End and Sparkbrook & Balsall Heath East.

When we work with people ‘on the ground’, we are able to provide first-hand advice and support on starting up a litter-picking group. We can either loan equipment or agree for the council to supply it and to remove the bags of litter collected.

This year, we plan to expand our work through a new volunteering programme into other highly littered areas around England, so that we can help more people to overcome litter issues where they live. Eventually, we hope to work in this way throughout the UK. Imagine every community had its own litter-picking group?!

Here are the stories of some of the groups that we have worked with over the years:
