Litter Pick 28

Crewe,CW2 7NE

15 Mar 2014

00:00

Margaret: "Well the year is speeding by and it is time for our first spring litter pick. We have chosen to do the wooded area behind the cinema in Crewe. This is a lovely location for the pick as the bulbs will just be peeking up through a litter encrusted topping. Our pick will take part on Saturday March 15th at 10am. Caroline has arranged that for those of us with cars can park at the Windycote Car Park in Chester Street. Please see this link if you do not know where that is. http://en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking/windycote_chester_street_crewe/ The barriers should be up so we can park. Look out for my car-a black Vauxhall Vectra. You can also get to the location on foot from Flag Lane. This will be our third litter pick at this location and is a great site to make an enormous difference as a team. We will be joined by a professional photographer from the Crewe Community Foundation (one of our sponsors) who want to see us 'in action'.

If you would prefer to not be in any photographs, then please let me know and I can tell the photographer on the day. (I am sure that Dave will be taking every opportunity to get his cheesy grin in every picture, but just in case he moves out of the way...) The Crosville Club has offered us free refreshments after the pick, so please stay for a chat afterwards." As always, children are welcome if accompanied by an adult but please be aware the the terrain is uneven in this area and steep in some places. Margaret: "Another huge thank you to all those who turned up on Saturday to clean up the wooded area that runs behind the cinema car park and is situated between Flag Lane and Chester Street in Crewe. We had a big turn out with 17 of us ready to turn a rather dirty area back into a clean area filled with spring bulbs. 46 bags of litter were collected and 3 large bags of cans. Scary considering that we pick this area yearly and that there are two litter bins at either end of the pavement that runs alongside it. Some of our 'super strong' members were all hands on deck to cart two rather nasty looking mattresses that we found on the other side of the pavement. We also picked up the usual litter but also brand new coat hangers (I think a shoplifter throws them down), purses, cups, and various bits to do with the taking of drugs. (The police have been informed.). Sam and Jess, the photographers from Shoot the Living Editorial Photographic Agency in Preston, sent by the Cheshire Community Foundation arrived after we had cleared the worst spots, but were still there to take some what should be interesting photographs of us all 'in action'. Dave brought along our shield and certificate for everyone to admire, and we had a group photograph taken to show the Foundation and PACE our achievement. Refreshments were kindly provided by Ivor and Amy at The Crosville Club. I took the cans to Houston’s on Monday, along with others that I collected on Sunday near my house. We raised £5.50 for them." .

Huntsham
Huntsham is a tiny village in mid Devon. For the last four years, Huntsham Society members and our local community (farmers and all) have joined forces twice a year to clean up all the many the lanes for a distance of 2-3 miles from the village; once in April before the verges are hidden in new growth, and once in October when the vegetation has died down and the litter can be seen. This April we had a turnout of over 100 helpers, including many children. We have recently combined our efforts with Mid Devon County Councils campaign to help keep Devon clean and green, also twice a year. It would be fantastic if neighbouring parishes could take up the challenge of keeping the lanes clear of litter.
