Litter Pick 27

Crewe,CW2 7NE

15 Feb 2014

00:00

Our next litter pick will be on Saturday February 15th at 10am. We will meet at The Merlin Pub car park on Bradfield Road in Crewe. The pub is currently empty, and up for sale, so parking should not be an issue. It is also close to bus stops. Although we have covered the paths near Leighton School before, we have not tackled the path and green areas behind the pub, nor spread out and walked the paths which run from Bradfield Road towards Mablins Lane School. I would like it if we could split into two or three groups and head off in different directions. This way we can can cover a greater area and make a real impact on the litter problem. As always, children are welcome if accompanied by an adult. All equipment will be provided. Many thanks to all of you who turned up yesterday to tackle the Leighton/Bradfield Road area of Crewe. We did a fantastic job and filled 22 bags with litter and collected two bags of cans.

I am glad to report that this area has not returned to the terrible state that it was when we first litter picked there. There is far less rubbish at the backs of the bushes. However, there still appears to be a great many dog walkers who are picking up their dog's mess but are then throwing it into the bushes. We stopped before the rain set in, and then a few of us went to the Methodist church on Bradfield Road where we were kindly given refreshments by Mr Clive Taylor free of charge. .

St. Briavels Beautifiers
I am the sole member of this group so far and would like to recruit other like-minded, local litter-killers. I've armed myself with a litter-picker-upper stick, bought online for a tenner, and I use recycled, plastic, supermarket bags for the collections. I walk around my village on litter-spotting missions every now and then with my fiance and our baby daughter. Good exercise and the lanes look much nicer. 'Hotspots' for litter are the bus shelter and the playing fields. Great feeling of satisfaction too. My aim is to keep our beautiful village 100% litter-free.
