Our 38th Litter Pick (and tidy up)

Crewe,CW2 7NE

15 Nov 2014

00:00

Just for members this one because we won't be able to transport much spare kit on this particular occasion. We are litter picking and tidying in the cemetery. Meet at the car parks inside the Badger Avenue gates at 10am. What a choice you have! Litter pick leisurely in the tranquil 80 acres or sweep leaves and tidy. Either will help to improve the area for the bereaved and other users of the public space. The tools will be provided by the cemetery - for which many thanks. We have received a grant to increase the store of equipment available to us at the cemetery. We have also now received our new equipment, so a different sort of litter picker will be available for the lucky few to test drive. A great turnout for this one - 18 members and 1 guest. That's encouraging as we try to persuade the good people of Crewe to help to look after our own, beautiful cemetery. We filled 21 sacks with litter and 4 with cans for recycling.

We swept up nine sacks of leaves for composting or use as a mulch. Some stayed for an hour, some for 90 minutes. Cuppas at the Cheshire Academy on Broad Street afterwards. Thanks to everyone who helped on the day. Thanks to Sandra for providing some tools for us..

Gamston Litter Pickers
Rubbish disposal and fly tipping is becoming an increasing problem nationally compounded by reduced services across the counties. Many communities are taking it upon themselves to get out and tidy up their local areas by grabbing a bag and a litter picker and spending an hour or so in their immediate local area picking up discarded rubbish. If you are interested in meeting up once a month then please come along on the third Saturday, and together we can make a difference to rubbish and fly tipping in our area. All equipment is provided, including ‘kids kits’ so that children can participate safely too. We meet at 10am at the Gamston Village Hall and are out for a maximum of 2 hours. The monthly litter picking is in Gamston but the equipment is available for all residents of the villages of Adbolton, Bassingfield, Gamston and Holme Pierrepont to use.
