Litter pick on way to work I haven't walked along the canal for around a week or two as I have had errands to run before work so have been walking a different way to work, it's the longest time I have had away from the canal. Alas I returned on Monday to find plenty of rubbish gathered on the water (thanks to the rain) so decided to take to the towpath with my litter picker on Tuesday morning. (I also noted around 5 or so full black bags of rubbish dumped at bridge 3 and lots of misc bits and bobs dotted along the path from bridge 3 to 2 including what looked like a tent and even a camcorder! I think the nice weather from the previous week has had the magnet fishers out dredging up all sorts from the canal.
I am learning to be grateful to them for leaving their finds on the towpath as it means I can pick it and get it to a bin rather than get annoyed at them for leaving dirty bits of plastic and whatnot that they have fished out everywhere! So I reported this to The CRT who assured me they would send out some local lads to pick it up.) Anyway I grabbed as much as I could but a lot from the water had moved overnight/in the morning and was dispersed or on the other side of the bank. But irritatingly someone had been along the path with a mower and clearly mowed the rubbish too so there were lots of shards of cans or very small chopped up bits of plastic so picked what I could. I filled a big black bag but unfortunately was unable to decant into one or many of the bins I use as they were all full or overflowing. So I tied it securely and left it on the ground next to the public bin in the Leicester Row car park and reported the bins to the council to request they be emptied ASAP. Fingers crossed by next week they have been emptied! .
