Litter pick on way to work

Coventry,CV6 5BD

Last litter pick of the year perhaps... Decided to do a litter pick as little and often seems to work really well for the stretch that I walk along. Picked up lots of strongbow cans including the cardboard box they all came in. A few bags for life, little plastic bits and also, rather annoyingly, plastic polystyrene packaging nuggets which are now spilling out from a wasteland fenced off dumping ground full of shipping containers (yes multiple!) which some wonderful people have gone in and slashed a huge bag full of these delightful little 's' shapes and are now beginning to litter the towpath.

I have sent multiple reports to my Council about it - all completely ignored so I shall take to emailing my councillors and be sure to send photographic evidence with perhaps a couple of links to Plastic Pollution articles and videos! On the plus side, I was so happy to see that the litter bins I have been requesting along a main road (Foleshill Road) specifically at a couple of bus stops have been provided! It was on a stretch of around half a mile where there are no bins! So I'm glad we now have some for public use, litter louts beware! Shame on you now there are bins available! .

Gamston Litter Pickers
Rubbish disposal and fly tipping is becoming an increasing problem nationally compounded by reduced services across the counties. Many communities are taking it upon themselves to get out and tidy up their local areas by grabbing a bag and a litter picker and spending an hour or so in their immediate local area picking up discarded rubbish. If you are interested in meeting up once a month then please come along on the third Saturday, and together we can make a difference to rubbish and fly tipping in our area. All equipment is provided, including ‘kids kits’ so that children can participate safely too. We meet at 10am at the Gamston Village Hall and are out for a maximum of 2 hours. The monthly litter picking is in Gamston but the equipment is available for all residents of the villages of Adbolton, Bassingfield, Gamston and Holme Pierrepont to use.

Coventry Canal
I am an individual who walks part of the Coventry canal to and from work everyday. I have only been walking along the canal since October 2017 despite being a Coventrian my entire life! It is the city's best kept secret and so peaceful and calm away from crowds and cars. But it makes me angry and sad to see such a beautiful habitat ruined with litter so I started picking litter! I usually pick on my way to/from work in the week but I plan to do more at the weekends and travel further to notoriously messy parts of the canal. If anyone would care to join me to make a difference and tidy up for the animals and all of us to enjoy, please get in touch :) Thank you, Jennysha P.S. There is now a new Canal & River Trust Towpath Taskforce which runs on Thursday mornings - please see CRT website for more info. Give as much or as little time as you can :) Please report any flytipping via: 1) website: fixmystreet.com 2) email: enquiries.westmidlands@canalrivertrust.org.uk
