Great British Spring Clean Launch

Unit One, The Swan Centre,Eastleigh,SO50 5SG

27 Feb 2017

00:00

We will be going along to help the New Forest District Council to launch their campaign for the "Great British Spring Clean" on Monday 27th February. We are meeting at Picket Post car park(NOT McDonald's) at 9.30am. Be a litter hero this weekend More than 400 local volunteers are expected to be out and about this weekend giving the New Forest a spring clean. Events will be taking place across the New Forest as part of The Great British Spring Clean, a national campaign led by Keep Britain Tidy. Launching the events at Picket Post, representatives from New Forest District Council, Forestry Commission, New Forest National Park Authority, Verderers of the New Forest and McDonalds at Burley were keen to encourage people to get involved. Cllr Barry Rickman, Leader of New Forest District Council, said: “We live and work in a spectacular area and keeping it free of litter is just one way to help protect it.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers who give up their time to come together and clean up our towns, villages, beaches and forest. Our thanks also go to our teams of staff who help keep the area clean all year round.” You can get involved in the Spring Clean by finding an open event near you at greatbritishspringclean.org.uk or attending an event with the Forestry Commission: • Bolton’s Bench Car Park, in Lyndhurst on Friday 3 March 10am - 12pm • Beaulieu Heath Car Park, on the B3054 on Friday 3 March 2pm - 4pm • Wilverley Plain Car Park, near Burley off the B3058 on Saturday 4 March 10am - 12pm • Roundhill Campsite, Beaulieu Road, near Brockenhurst on Saturday 4 March 2pm – 4pm • Ocknell Campsite, Fritham on Sunday 5 March 10am - 12pm • Holmsley Campsite, Forest Road, near New Milton on Sunday 5 March 2pm - 4pm Edward Heron, Deputy Chairman of New Forest National Park Authority said: 'The New Forest National Park is one of Britain's most treasured landscapes. Litter is unsightly and extremely harmful to wildlife and the New Forest ponies. We would encourage as many people as possible to help us tidy up the Forest this weekend and raise awareness of this important issue.' Bruce Rothnie, Deputy Surveyor for the Forestry Commission, said: “We’re looking forward to working together with the local communities to demonstrate that the Forestry Commission and many others care passionately about keeping the New Forest litter-free and are prepared to do something to help.” .
