We are really excited about this, our first event in Jersey! It will take place on 27th June and we will be meeting at the restaurant at Halkett Street at 10am. We will then be walking to four local parks, litter picking on the way and also then litter picking around each park when we get to it. The parks are: Parade Garden's, Les Jardin's de la Mer, Waterfront Gardens and Howard Davis Park. Today we had our first litter pick in St Helier. We started at the restaurant and walked up towards Snow Hill Car Park. We then scattered in the car park to cover as much area as possible. We carefully walked between cars to reach all of the rubbish accumulated at the back of the car park. The biggest problem we found here was rubbish behind the temporary fencing at the back by the rocks. We managed to get quite a bit out using our litter pickers but this will need doing again when they removed.
We also sent someone back to the restaurant to get a dustpan & brush so that we could remove all of the cigarette butts as there were SO many of them it was impossible to get them all with our litter pickers. We then walked up La Rue De L'Est and onto South Hill Park. From there we walked down to South Pier onto North Quay and along the Waterfront. We then walked into Les Jardins De La Mer. The cigarette butts here again were just horrendous which is such a shame as the park is so beautiful with flowers and plants, which but the beds were littered with butts. We then walked onto Gloucester Street, Parade Gardens, York Street, King Street, Queen Street and then back to the restaurant. We walked 6km and collected 6 bags of rubbish. We spoke to many members of the public who were very curious about what we were doing and were happy to see that we were doing the litter pick! We found a large amount of cigarette butts which I have never seen anywhere else!!.
