The Big Broughton Bag Up!

The Thatched Cottage,9 Paul Lane,APPLEBY,DN15 0AR

21 Jan 2012

00:00

We are off again - tackling the very scruffy, heavily littered B1207 from the Brigg turn off (with the B1208) to the Broughton 30mph signs. These verges are not only heavily littered but are hard to access due to the branch overhang from the adjacent woods on both sides. We have tackled some of this road before, in Spring 2011 but it is noticeable how bad it is again when you are driving along. Saturday 21st - we made a start, filling 35 sacks, readying 4 wheels and tyres for collection by NLC and retrieving numerous car parts and other larger items. We got as far as 'Heron Holt Wood' and should complete the route tomorrow if the weather allows. It took 2 of us 4 hours! Sunday 22nd - we completed this route filling another 25 sacks along the way!.

Northern Slopes
We hold a weekly Green Gym session where we litter pick and do low key enhancements to the nature area. Litter and fly tipping has been a major problem over the years but since we started the group over 6 years ago the site is a lot cleaner. Other users tend to pick as they go too.

Our groups main aim is to improve the local environment so that it looks cleaner and more presentable as the litter in the area is spoiling the look of where we live and work. We would like to bring together the working community of the business park in order to clean things up a bit by keeping the area litter free. We feel that this would be a great opportunity to meet some of our neighbours, get some gentle exercise and achieve something really valuable at the same time.
