Regular Walk-Ups of Risby Road, Ermine Street north and south from the village will continue throughout March. 3rd and 4th March - Risby Road walk-up resulted in 4 sacks of litter. another 20 odd sacks were soon filled on Ermine Street and the road to Brigg, in a one mile stretch. It is around 7 weeks since we did this lane so we expected quite a bit of litter but not this much! March 10/11 - A walk up of Risby Road again this weekends resulted in 4 full sacks, the other lanes out the village filled another 4. March 12/13 Walk ups of Ermine Street in both directions - another 7 sacks filled March 17/18 Walk up of all the roads leading to Appleby. I can safely say we are clear of litter within a 3 mile radius of Appleby! And dog faeces too, we performed a scoop-up round the village this weekend! Checking my bag tally on my database on the computer today, I see we have now filled 1837 sacks! 25 March - walk up of Risby Road, 3.4 miles.

ONE SACK filled! This is the road we started with over a year ago - that first clean up resulted in 120 plus sacks, and another 60 the following weekend when we re did it. Follow ups resulted in 30 sacks, then 20 and then regularly 6 or 8 sacks. One sack in a week - a BIG improvement! 26 March - Our first evening litter pick of 2012. Ermine Street North as far as the Winterton turn off - TWO sacks filled! .

We live here and care about our neighbourhood. It is up to us to look after it and make it a nice place to live. Our ground-zero is Sheerwater Recreation Area. This is a heavily used open space which many of us enjoy using. Because it is so popular it inevitably attracts a lot of rubbish - but this is an easy, and rewarding, problem to deal with. Once we've cleaned up the park on one of our regular n0 $#!+ sessions, then we extend our reach outwards along the canal and neighbouring areas to cover as much as we can.

DORSET DEVILS
Dorset Devils are a group of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole and beyond residents who volunteer their free time to clear litter from where they live as well as nearby parks and our beautiful beaches. We each look after our own patch and hope to encourage others to manage their own litter. Our voluntary group started in 2013 and we now have 836 + like minded residents onboard and still growing. We want Dorset to be as litter free as possible but that means everyone needs to play their part for this to happen. Fresh air, gentle exercise guaranteed and some equipment available. Do as much or as little picking as you like and choose the time and place suitable for you, eIther on your own, with someone else or with Dorset Devils living nearby. Our USP is solo or family/friends litter picking rather than group organised events or with the public. You are welcome to join us and then you can look after your own patch, wherever and whenever it suits you. Always your choice how long you ‘devil’ around. Help make a difference where you live, play and relax. Bournemouth Borough Council and Bournemouth University fully support us with equipment and encouragement. We link up with local environmental organisations including Wimborne War on Waste, Southbourne Waste Busters and we are part of Litter Free Dorset- land, coast & sea. We are active within the community and get involved in a variety of community initiatives including activities with primary school children and scout packs.
