09.30-11.00am - Meet at Greenfield Ave. entrance to Eastfield Park. Throughout October and November, 2012, Friends of Eastfield Park (FoEP) are organising litter picking activities in and around Eastfield Park on a weekly basis. Litter picking equipment / protective gloves provided. No need to stay for the whole time. Activity will only be cancelled if the weather is very bad! (Phone 07910161275 on day to check) Three full bags of litter collected on our 6th litter picking outing as part of the autumn Away With Litter campaign. (Actually we used four bags to put it all in but two were only about 1/2 full, though heavy because of the high glass content.) We covered the whole length of Apple Tree Walk and, thankfully, there wasn't much litter in the park itself.
The amount of rubbish, however, increased dramatically towards the Kettering Road with a large number of glass bottles dumped in the vegetation alongside the path at the far end, including a number of empty Budweiser bottles in a Tesco bag! We also had a quick dash around the MUGA and continued up to the top pond via the Bullring finding the usual sweet wrappers and crisp bags near the MUGA and a few beer cans (and one Spanish wine carton!) along the rest of the route. Things seem to be improving steadily. Later in the day, the Chair of FoEP was able to take the anti-litter message into a local school. He will be doing the same on 8th November at another school..
