The Friends of Eastfield Park have organised 'Spring Cleans' in Eastfield Park every year since 2007. Our 2019 Spring Clean is part of ‘The Great British Spring Clean’ and we are again looking for volunteers to help out! As usual, we will concentrate on litter picking in wooded areas and around the Lake, areas often overlooked by contracted litter pickers. We will also try to remove heavier items from the Lake and ponds. We will have a Morning Session (10.00 am to 12.00 noon) and an Afternoon Session (1.00 pm to 3.00 pm). Why not join us for one or both sessions and help to make a difference? We meet just inside the Skiddaw Walk entrance. Tools and protective gloves will be provided. Volunteers spent between 30 minutes and six hours in the Park, the combined adult community effort being over 70 hours. (It is difficult to be precise because some volunteers forgot to sign out.) Of particular note was the huge contribution from teachers, parents and students from Saint Gregory's Catholic Primary School in Grange Road. The volunteers collected 63 bags of rubbish (including 15 bags for recycling) plus an assortment of other rubbish including car tyres, tins of paint, a small child's bike, a table top, cupboards and chain link fencing (see photographs). The FoEP wish to thank all the volunteers and the rangers for their effort in helping to make the Park a better place. THANK YOU!.
