November 2016 litter pick

Bristol,BS16 3TN

20 Nov 2016

00:00

Starting from Straits Parade at 11am on Sunday 20th November. ... Weather permitting. As of one week before, the forecast looks okay for the Sunday, but sign up to stay informed of any late changes. As usual, we'll start by clearing litter on Straits Parade and decide where to focus on. If there's a litter troublespot or somewhere that could do with a one-time blitz, please let us know. See you there! Cheers, Paul & Cath. We'd noticed that the council have been litter picking and leaf collecting along and near Straits Parade, so this needed very little work and we quickly moved down Fishponds Road to New Station Road. We cleared the zone along New Station Road and the triangle of Brook Road & Station Road up to the roundabout. As usual there was a lot of debris caught in the hedgerows near the roundabout and some flytipping (which we've reported to the council). The rest of us headed beyond the Cross Hands towards Stanbury Avenue.

It was a shortish litter pick of 1 hour, but between 9 of us we still collected 12 bags of rubbish. Thanks to Geoff, Carol, Stuart, Jo, Michael, Pete, Louise, Tony and Paul..

Village Action Litter Busters
We are part of the Frampton Cotterell and Coalpit Heath Village Action initiative. We aim to co-ordinate the efforts of local people in promoting awareness of the problem of litter; improving attitudes; and taking part in monthly organised litter picking, with the aim of keeping our villages pleasant and pretty. We know that many residents look after the roadsides and paths adjacent to their own homes and wish to encourage this. Some of our members carry chalk to mark dog fouling on pavements, to help people avoid stepping in it and to tell irresponsible dog owners that they should be clearing up after their pet. Litter picking can be very rewarding, and is an opportunity to get out and make new contacts in the village. Please get in touch if you can help in any way, however small. Please email us if there is any particular area in the village over which you have concerns about litter. In 2012 Nisa - Village Roots in Woodend Road gave us some funds and we have bought some hi-viz vests with 'Volunteer - Village Action Litter Busters' printed on them. We are grateful for their continuing support. South Glos Council support us with sacks, picker sticks and bag hoops. See Upcoming Events for dates and meeting points for monthly litter picks. Please see our gallery below for some pictures of our members, including two younger litter busters!

Test Valley Clean Up
The A3057 and A3090 are usually full of litter and the verges are only cleared infrequently - and in many places never. In the Summer it does not look so bad because of the grass - but come the Winter! A number of more minor roads are also left with litter because it would seem that Test Valley Borough Council only cares, if at all, about Andover and Romsey. The aim is to get Test Valley BC to do what it is required to do under the EPA for the district as a whole and not just the main urban areas.

Rossall Beach Residents & Community Group
The original Fylde Coast beach care group, we look after the shingle beach between the Five Bar Gate and The Venue at Cleveleys. Our core activities are a four weekly community beach clean and a monthly meeting - and throughout the year we do lots of other things to help to improve this beautiful stretch of coast for the people who use it and the wildlife which lives here. Oh, and we have a lot of fun and make a lot of friends - the community which we create is every bit as important as the litter which we pick up! For the dates of forthcoming beach cleans and events please go to: - our website at www.rossallbeach.org.uk - our Facebook page at Rossall Beach Buddies - Twitter @RossBeachBudds

Great Dunmow Grabber(s)
Living near the recreation ground and being a dog walker I usually pick up litter whilst wandering and have taken part in litter clearance events in Chelmsford. My hope is that by setting up this group I can act as a focal point for local residents in helping to maintain the beauty of this town by taking part in occasional "pick-up" events.
