Sweep up for Santa

The Canal and River Trust (formerly British Waterways) will be out seeing what we're up to on our first activity, which happens to be cleaning up the basin area in preparation for Santa's arrival on the 30th November. So, to show them both what the town's all about we need as many volunteers as we can muster down there from 12noon till around 2pm on Saturday 17th November. Equipment will be provided (gloves, bags, pickers, secateurs etc) but please feel free to bring your own. Please wear sturdy footwear, steel toe caps if you have them. They'll be plenty of activities from light to heavy, from picking up cans, to holding bags, to lopping branches. If none of that tickles your fancy please come down and give moral support. Hey if you want to bring goodies down to the gang working there, tea/coffee/treats please do. If you've got a guitar or saxophone head down to the basin and entertain the troops. Middlewich Clean Team
The Middlewich Clean Team was set up with the basic intention of keeping our town litter free. However we now do much more as we have an education programme working in all of our schools and pre-school groups and have carried out a number of environmental projects. We have a small committee and well over 100 members. Litter picking is undertaken by all members, either by joining a group litter pick or simply by keeping an area litter free. We have also worked with Government Departments on controlling ant-social behaviour and very recently, several of our members qualified as Community Crime Fighters and have been involved in the restorative justice system. We help set up other Clean Teams nationally and are the Mother Clean Team to some of the other organisations included on this site.

Gamston Litter Pickers
Rubbish disposal and fly tipping is becoming an increasing problem nationally compounded by reduced services across the counties. Many communities are taking it upon themselves to get out and tidy up their local areas by grabbing a bag and a litter picker and spending an hour or so in their immediate local area picking up discarded rubbish. If you are interested in meeting up once a month then please come along on the third Saturday, and together we can make a difference to rubbish and fly tipping in our area. All equipment is provided, including ‘kids kits’ so that children can participate safely too. We meet at 10am at the Gamston Village Hall and are out for a maximum of 2 hours. The monthly litter picking is in Gamston but the equipment is available for all residents of the villages of Adbolton, Bassingfield, Gamston and Holme Pierrepont to use.

Collie Collections
Currently most of the work is done by my Border Collie who collects crisp and other wrappers and plastic bottles. She then finds the nearest waste bin and puts the litter in it. She has been doing this for the past 5 years.

St Cleer Litter Picker
I am a walker / runner living in the St Cleer, Liskeard area fed up with seeing discarded litter cluttering the country lanes and endever to do a litter pick every Saturday morning following a 5k circuit around the villages. You are welcome to join me and help. Bring you HI Vis Jacket & black bags.
