South Common Litter Picking Crew

FRIENDS OF CHARLTON BROOK are an environmental group consisting of local people who aim to restore Charlton Brook and the dam to it's former glory. New members are always welcome and encouraged to take part in litter picks and fund raising events. Local folk will know the area very well as a pleasant walk between the Barrel Inn and the Bridge Inn. FOCB are currently working with Sheffield City Council Parks and Countryside and Environmental Planning, Wildlife trust and other local groups. Public green spaces improve the look of an area for everybody, they increase bio-diversity and counteract the effects of global warming. Sadly Charlton Brook needs care and attention, which has been lacking for many years. Our Aims De-Silting of the dam and stream. Improved Fishing Facilities. Better footpaths and lighting and to include disabled access. New seating, litter and dog bins. Regular refuse clearance. Improvement of BMX track and installation of robust playground. Woodland management to increase diversity of the wildlife habitat.

Clean Street Exmouth endeavours to keep the town clean and tidy by co-opting individuals who volunteer to adopt their street or area. We supply postcards for them to deliver to neighbours which invite them to help keep their street clean on a day-by-day basis. We also supply a postcard which adopters can use to organise 1-hour street cleans involving litter and weed removal. We cooperate with the district and town council cleaning services eg: joint 1-hour cleans to recruit new adopters and to show the improvement residents can make.

We litter pick Mile End Park, Tower Hamlets on the second Sunday of every month. We meet at 10am by the Art Pavilion which is by Clinton Road and just off Grove Road. We generally do a couple of hours. We can\'t do the whole park in two hours so we generally head north one month and south the next. Litter pickers, gloves, plastic litter bags, and hoops for the bags are supplied. We collapse in a heap at the end in The Coffee Room afterwards and reward ourselves with cake and coffee, and a good old chit chat.

Our volunteers litter pick the length of Mexborough canal and the Ferryboat slipway.

Currently most of the work is done by my Border Collie who collects crisp and other wrappers and plastic bottles. She then finds the nearest waste bin and puts the litter in it. She has been doing this for the past 5 years.

We are local residents who are passionate about improving our environment. We achieve this through regular group litter picks, bulb planting and other related activities. We educate local youngsters in-school and encourage their participation wherever practical. 'The War on Litter - We've Got to Bin It to Win It.'

Recently I have been on a mission to clean up the litter in my local area and I need help from local people. The aim of the group is to tackle litter blackspots in Tonbridge and the surrounding area, especially around local woods, paths, parks and local playgrounds. Litter can be harmful to wildlife, and its not nice to see when walking in the local park with my son. I want to organise local litter picking/clean up days to improve the local environment for everyone. In times when the local councils are cutting funds for street cleaners the litter problem will be sure to get worse, we all have a responsibility to improve our local environment. I am retired and collect litter as an individual. I started litter picking when I was living in Small Heath and collected more than 1,750 bags over a three year period. I have now moved to Coseley, which is far less blighted by litter, but it is still about. I collect litter two or three times a week around Upper Ettingshall Road, Ivy House Lane, Shaw Road and roads and alleys leading from that area.
