Otterford Parish Litter Pick 7 NOVEMBER 2016 Headlines # 16 Pickers (and 2 Base Team) collected 43 sacks of litter,1 tyre, 6 hubcaps, a shower tray, a suitcase, and miscellaneous items # After sorting, 427 drinks cans, 307 plastic bottles, 55 glass bottles, and assorted metal were recycled Circumstances dictated that our Autumn pick this year was held nearly a month later than usual. This brought us much closer to Christmas, and we thought attendance might be down. On the day we had sixteen pickers (compared to an average of 22 over the previous six Picks), and a base team of two. With reduced numbers we were only able to pick in six of the nine areas the parish is divided into. Nevertheless, in two hours we collected 43 sacks of litter, and a range of other things including six hub caps, one lorry/tractor tyre, a shower tray, a suitcase, a range of pieces of car bodywork, odds and ends of scrap metal, and miscellaneous cabling and tubing (all with the copper extracted!).
Yet again, a substantial amount of litter came from food wrappings - the largest single amount (as usual) was from McDonalds – but we also had wrappers and cups/bottles from Burger King, KFC, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Asda, Waitrose, Pepsi Cola, Costa Coffee, Café Nero, and Marks & Spencer. After sorting as much as possible has been recycled. From this Pick we recycled 427 drinks cans, 307 plastic bottles, 55 glass bottles, and assorted metal. Our next Parish Litter Pick is on Saturday 11th March 2017 meeting at the Parish Hall, in Bishopswood (TA20 3RS) at 9.30am. - Remember – you don’t have to live in Otterford to help keep this part of the AONB beautiful! .
