- As the UK appeared to be moving towards lock-down we wondered just how much this would affect our 17th Pick. The answer was ‘not much’ - 29 volunteers turned-up on the morning, with 25 picking. Semi-constant (sometimes heavy) drizzle meant that by the end of the Pick all 25 arrived back damp! We spread ourselves a little thinner than usual; covered all nine areas, and for the first time picked the whole Parish. There was a lot of litter! We filled 51 sacks, and also picked up a microwave, a cash register, 20 VHS video tapes (some unwound and harder to pick up), 4 tyres, 5 hubcaps, a bag of unopened food shopping, over 30 empty packets of Nurofen, lots of car body parts and a range of other items. After lunch everything was sorted - we recycled 636 drinks cans, 390 plastic bottles, 110 glass bottles/jars, and assorted metal. For the first time we recycled plastic food trays and lids (281), cardboard and paper, and aluminum foil.
Back to the hall afterwards for a hot drink and a bacon/veggie roll, and it was time to hand out four Blue Hubcaps and chocolates (for 10 Picks), and two Blue MACKY’D Cups (for 15 Picks). . .
