Otterford Parish Litter Pick 16

Green Pastures,Bishopswood,nr Chard,TA20 3RS

16 Nov 2019

00:00

.. Earlier light rain had cleared by the time we started, and we had a record turnout of 29 pickers, plus a base team of five (who put out warning road signs and lucked them up again, collected the full sacks of litter, and manned the hall for first aid and refreshments). We picked most of the Parish, collecting 42 sacks of litter, plus an amazing collection of car body parts, two tyres, three hubcaps, a dozen or so video cassettes with all the tape unreeled, and miscellaneous metal. We also picked up 23 plastic milk cartons (what a shame the refuse/recycling collectors can't keep these on their lorries). And - we've been wondering - do the police have a responsibility to clear up the hatched tape they use at accident locations? We picked up plenty today. Back at the hall for refreshments we awarded two Blue MACKY'D cups (and chocolates) for completing 15 litterpicks. After sorting we recycled 370 drinks cans, 239 plastic bottles, 51 glass bottles and miscellaneous metal..

I have started picking up litter at my local playing field and I collect it from my street. It upsets me that people have no regard or respect for the area that they live and I have decided to do something about it.

Our groups main aim is to improve the local environment so that it looks cleaner and more presentable as the litter in the area is spoiling the look of where we live and work. We would like to bring together the working community of the business park in order to clean things up a bit by keeping the area litter free. We feel that this would be a great opportunity to meet some of our neighbours, get some gentle exercise and achieve something really valuable at the same time.
