Otterford Parish Litter Pick 15

Green Pastures,Bishopswood,nr Chard,TA20 3RS

12 Jul 2019

23:00

.. Our Summer Pick. Always a quieter day because of absences on holiday etc, so we were delighted when 19 pickers (plus a base team of 2) turned up. For once the weather was just ‘normal’ - no snow, no rain, no biting winds, no hot sun – perfect for litter picking. With slightly smaller numbers we picked in six of the ten areas of the parish. A total of 18 (very full) sacks were collected, plus 7 tyres, assorted plastic from cars, three traffic cones and (as ever) a hubcap. We saw a substantial reduction in the number of plastic milk cartons collected – just 7 this time compared to 34 in March. We are aware that rampant roadside vegetation is hiding a lot of litter ready for our next Pick! Three awards this time – one Blue Hub Cap (and chocolates) for completing 10 Picks, and the very first two Blue Macky ‘D’ Cups (and, of course, chocolates) for completing all 15 Picks to date.

After sorting we recycled 154 drinks cans, 101 plastic bottles, 16 glass bottles/jars, and miscellaneous metal .

n0 $#!+ $#33rw4xor
We live here and care about our neighbourhood. It is up to us to look after it and make it a nice place to live. Our ground-zero is Sheerwater Recreation Area. This is a heavily used open space which many of us enjoy using. Because it is so popular it inevitably attracts a lot of rubbish - but this is an easy, and rewarding, problem to deal with. Once we've cleaned up the park on one of our regular n0 $#!+ sessions, then we extend our reach outwards along the canal and neighbouring areas to cover as much as we can.
