Loved up Litter Pick

St. Albans,AL1 2PB

10 Feb 2018

00:00

Show your area how much you love it by helping get it cleaned up and looking smart for Valentines. Start time is 10:15am for a 10:30 start until 12:30 Saturday Feb 10th We will be meeting at the junction between Gorham Drive and Nuns lane and fan out from there. Remember to wear something red or pink to show the love during this event and hopefully we can set a new record for the new year with how many bags we can collect! We have all equipment needed to litter pick but you are very welcome to bring your own if you wish. Additionally you may like to bring the following: - Any first aid supplies you may need while out - A drink to keep hydrated - Anything else you see fit for litter picking Comfy shoes and clothing is highly recommended, please dress for the weather.

Please ensure your own safety and others while we are out, if you require insurance, please arrange this yourself but the rules of common sense and being safe apply; don't pick up anything suspicious, sharp, dangerous or heavy and report anything suspicious to local authorities. Please let the event co-coordinator know during or at the end of the event if you have found anything that will need reporting. A hand out will also be given with details on what and who to report waste to. Hope to see you there! If you have any questions, please email cleanupsopwell@outlook.com If you can't make it on the day but would still like to help out by donating, you can make donations in bin liners, litter pickers, hi-vis jackets, gloves or anything else by getting in contact at the email address provided. Thank you! We did fantastically well and recovered 17 bags of waste with the help of our lovely volunteers. We had a real big focus on the hedges in Butterfield Lane which were overrun! .

DORSET DEVILS
Dorset Devils are a group of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole and beyond residents who volunteer their free time to clear litter from where they live as well as nearby parks and our beautiful beaches. We each look after our own patch and hope to encourage others to manage their own litter. Our voluntary group started in 2013 and we now have 836 + like minded residents onboard and still growing. We want Dorset to be as litter free as possible but that means everyone needs to play their part for this to happen. Fresh air, gentle exercise guaranteed and some equipment available. Do as much or as little picking as you like and choose the time and place suitable for you, eIther on your own, with someone else or with Dorset Devils living nearby. Our USP is solo or family/friends litter picking rather than group organised events or with the public. You are welcome to join us and then you can look after your own patch, wherever and whenever it suits you. Always your choice how long you ‘devil’ around. Help make a difference where you live, play and relax. Bournemouth Borough Council and Bournemouth University fully support us with equipment and encouragement. We link up with local environmental organisations including Wimborne War on Waste, Southbourne Waste Busters and we are part of Litter Free Dorset- land, coast & sea. We are active within the community and get involved in a variety of community initiatives including activities with primary school children and scout packs. We are more than just litter pickers as we hope to raise awareness and engage, wherever possible. Follow us on DD Facebook, Twitter and interact through our brand new website. dorsetdevils.org N.B. Great Dunmow Grabber(s)
Living near the recreation ground and being a dog walker I usually pick up litter whilst wandering and have taken part in litter clearance events in Chelmsford. My hope is that by setting up this group I can act as a focal point for local residents in helping to maintain the beauty of this town by taking part in occasional "pick-up" events.

Clean Up Devizes Squad
CUDS was formed primarily to litter pick around our town and its environs. We do so about 4 times a month for 2 hours each time and then have a cup of tea and the all-important biscuits. We also strip useless bits of turf off areas, dig over, plant bulbs and sow wildflower seeds which we maintain on 2 roundabouts and various other places. At present we have about 28 members. We are not a charity - we are funded by grants for which I apply and have back-up from Dervizes Town Council's Park and Open Spaces team when we can't shift all the stuff we have collected ourselves. When we started over 3 years ago, we were viewed with some suspicion - as in 'Are you all doing Community Payback?' and so forth - interesting to think that a great group of oldies would be doing that! Now, in our bright blue hivis vests emblazed with CUDS on the back, nearly everybody knows who we are - and if they don't, they must have been asleep. We work with local groups - Beavers, the Canoe Club, The Lions at their Fair and recently with The Fulltone Orchestra at their free event in the Market Place. We are also planning our reward - apart from cake, which we have before our summer and Christmas breaks. This time we are going on a day out to visit various gardens in Somerset - it's great to be sociable and many have made firm friends within our group.
