Welcome to the Keep Stoke Tidy group. We are a small group of volunteers with an increasing concern about the litter across the city. It seems difficult to walk more than a few yards lately without coming across at least one discarded face mask, food wrapper or empty plastic bottle. Rather than choose to live with this we have decided to improve the situation by making a city-wide litter-picking network that we are calling ‘Keep Stoke Tidy’. Our aim is to make sure that every area of this wonderful city has an active litter picking group and through the wonder of social media we would like to support those groups in advertising litter picking events. For those areas that don’t have a litter picking group it would be great to see new ones start up. Throughout the year each group will continue to have their usual local litter picking days but with a larger network it would be brilliant to think that each month of the year we could vote for an area to focus on. We could then arrange an event with a larger group of volunteers, with as many people as possible from all of the other groups coming to work together to focus on that area. The Group operates under the aegis of the Town Council. Every Sunday morning, at 9.00, a small band of volunteers (open to anyone to attend) meets at the Civic Centre to conduct a 'swift-pick' in the worst-affected areas (finishing at about 11.00). The Campaign has moved onto taking small patches of public land in the town and overseeing planting out and maintenance. The town's annual beautiful gardens competition is organised by the Group. The Group joins the annual clear-up of the River Uck that flows through the town. Weeding pavements and cutting back undergrowth are also tasks that are taken on. Most of this work is concentrated on the town centre, but a network of 'litter pickers' is being gradually established on the estates around the town. Volunteers are provided with a hi-vi vest, a litter picking stick, gloves and refuse sacks - and we even have wheeled trolleys to take round with you to deal with the large amounts of litter on a Sunday morning. The Campaign has its own (Don't be a) "Mucky Duck" logo.

This group is in a picturesque Suffolk village, with excellent contractors coming here frequently collecting 4 binfuls of litter a week - but still the litter comes!! Time for a Spring clean and community action!

Keep Forebridge Tidy is a group made up of likeminded individuals within the Forebridge Ward of Stafford who want to keep the area tidy. The scheme works by each volunteer taking ownership of their street, selection of streets or part of their street and keeping it free from litter by conducting regular litter picks. No formal litter picks are arranged allowing volunteers to litter pick as and when they can.

Clean Street Exmouth endeavours to keep the town clean and tidy by co-opting individuals who volunteer to adopt their street or area. We supply postcards for them to deliver to neighbours which invite them to help keep their street clean on a day-by-day basis. We also supply a postcard which adopters can use to organise 1-hour street cleans involving litter and weed removal. We cooperate with the district and town council cleaning services eg: joint 1-hour cleans to recruit new adopters and to show the improvement residents can make.

I set up the group on realizing there were areas of Lincoln's South Common where litter had been accumulating for years. We have managed to get on top of this situation and are now kept busy due to litter being left around the ponds and viewpoints around the common throughout the year . Since I started picking it I've seen weasels fighting, dear, buzzards and kestrel, herron, partridge and pheasants which, for me, makes it one of the most enjoyable places to pick in Lincoln.

This cross Derbyshire group has been assembled on Nextdoor to enable like minded people to join together in collecting litter, raising awareness in the community plus ......

We aim to increase social responsibility within the town. We hope that by showing pride in the town it will inspire other people and residents to take ownership of the area in which they live. We are sick of fly tipping and litter and hope to make a positive impact on the town by becoming more action orientated!
