Big Spring Clean - March 2015

Durham,DH7 7AG

14 Mar 2015

00:00

Litterpick around the Colliery Road, Bearpark Primary School and play area. Meet at the Primary School at 10.00 a.m. Residents of all ages from Bearpark, along with Councillors from Bearpark Parish Council armed themselves with gloves and rubbish sacks on Saturday 14 March. They collected around 50 sacks of rubbish from along the Colliery Road area of Bearpark, including the play area and local Primary School. Durham County Council provided the equipment for the litterpick which was arranged by Bearpark Parish Council to coincide with the LitterFree Durham Big Spring Clean initiative. The Parish Council often received complaints about littering in the village and the Big Spring Clean was an ideal opportunity to help raise awareness of the problem and take some positive community action.

We were delighted at the turnout and would like to thank everybody involved, especially the younger volunteers, who took real pride in helping make a small part of their village a much cleaner environment. .

North West London Clean Up
If you're reading this you're probably already aware that there is a serious litter problem and something must be done! As well as solo daily pickings while walking the dogs, I'm also organising various community clean-ups, mostly a monthly one at the Welsh Harp. I have lots of equipment which I'm very happy to lend out, as well as welcoming suggestions for other areas that need a clean-up. Please contact if you wish to get involved.

Tidy Tavi
Tidy Tavi volunteers meet on the first Saturday each month to pick up litter from the streets and public spaces of the lovely town of Tavistock in Devon. We have been operating since October 2012 and attendance varies from about 18-30 local residents. We do not operate any sort of membership scheme or register. Volunteers simply come along when they can spare some time. This is important because we do not want anyone to feel committed to join in every month, or even for the full 2 hours. We work from 10 AM to midday and frequently fill 30-40 sacks of rubbish that are disposed of by West Devon District Council. Litter pickers, high visibility jackets, rubbish bags and hoops are provided. The group is supported by many local businesses including Tesco, who send some of their staff to help, and the Meadowlands Leisure Centre, where the group meets, who store our equipment for us. Several cafés in Tavistock supply free teas and coffees to volunteers. Critical support is also provided by our local newspaper, the Tavistock Times Gazette, who publish reports and print recruiting posters for the group.
