Sophies SUPER Litter Picking

We co-ordinate activities for the CPRE litter campaign Stop the Drop in County Durham and Darlington. These include acting as a central focus to which reports of litter grot spots may be made; making regular personal contact with Local Authorities, Parish Councils and tourism organisations; organising litter picks throughout the county; spreading publicity for the Campaign; and taking a programme of litter-awareness education into local schools. We are dog walkers and pick up on our walks in and around Crowborough, the Asdown Forest and wherever we caravan.

We are local residents who are passionate about improving our environment. We achieve this through regular group litter picks, bulb planting and other related activities. We educate local youngsters in-school and encourage their participation wherever practical. 'The War on Litter - We've Got to Bin It to Win It.'

We want to get beyond litter picking (though we still do it) and we seek to educate the younger generation through running humorous photographic contests on an anti-litter theme, school visits, and publicity on the issue generally This year we are running Litter Goes Literary, a photographic contest for young people (free entry) who must submit a humourly captioned photo from a litter pick, along with an ecologised version of one verse of a favourite song.

We see litter on our streets, we pick it up. We take ACTION, not ISSUE. We meet on the first Saturday of every month for an hour's "group litter-picking session," followed by a social cuppa.

A few* stalwart volunteers meet once a month to TIDY UP the neighbourhood, much to the delight of some residents & Lewes District Council! *Now in our 15th year, we have welcomed more recruits, taking our total to 38.

One of the Mendip Society's aims is to care for the Mendip Hills. The beauty of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is being compromised by the rubbish left behind by it's thousands of visitors (and residents too!) This group of members is starting to wage a war on litter, joining up with other groups whenever we can.

The Group consists of volunteers who carry out conservation and practical tasks within the Park at Havering-atte-Bower. We hold regular monthly 'litter picks; and encourage all Park users to be responsible for their litter,use the bins provided and aim to increase general awareness of litter,recycling and re-using and composting.

We meet to pick up litter in Morrab Gardens on the 1st Sunday of every month.
