To finish the litter pick started on 23rd September. As there is so much litter along this stretch, I have asked AVDC if they can collect our bags at the conclusion of the event from the bus stop near the turn off to Ivinghoe Aston. The northside of this road does have a footpath so is relatively safe. However, it stops shortly after the junction with Beacon Road so that is as far as we can go. Additionally, there is no footpath on the southside so any picking done on this side of the road will have to be completed with caution and only then when there is a verge which can accommodate us. Five bags collected today from the south verge, starting today from the Ivinghoe end of Icknield Way. Lots of hubs caps recovered! Again, today's efforts reinforced my view that clearing untouched verges is a mammoth job. Despite the number of bags I've collected so far, what I have achieved is superficial.
The problem is huge and with the hedgerows over 8-10 feet deep in places, it is virtually impossible to retrieve everything. AVDCs contractors could collect all the waste bags from anytime tomorrow, but my last experience resulted in delays in the waste being collected, so as long as it remains uncollected I will keep plugging away at the south verge..
