Sopwell Clean for The Queen - Community Litter Pick

Park Street,AL2 2AU

06 Mar 2016

00:00

Sopwell Residents Association's annual litter pick will be on Sunday, 6th March. This year's event will be part of the nationwide "Clean for The Queen" campaign, a campaign to clear up Britain in time for Her Majesty the Queen's 90th birthday, which will be officially celebrated in June 2016. We will be meeting in the usual place in Cottonmill Lane by the path leading down to the level crossing at 2pm and aim to finish by 4pm. If you have a litter picker please bring it but some equipment can be provided. Do join us if you can! The Sopwell Residents Association cleaned up for the Queen on Sunday 6th March. About 20 people turned up plus a couple of children which was a good turnout for us. Unfortunately the council did not give us many bags so we had to provide most of them ourselves.

However, we managed to collect about 30 bags of rubbish including some recyclable material and large fly tipped objects like a computer keyboard and an aerial! Because we were short of bags at the beginning we couldn't send people out with two bags so that they could separate the recyclables so most of the rubbish will be going to landfill. Usually we sort the material at the end but the weather turned nasty - hail and sleet so no one wanted to stop and do this..
