May Litterpick Hassocks

2 Dale Terrace,Hassocks,BN6 8LN

15 May 2009

23:00

Meet at 10AM We will be picking litter in the Hassocks town centre. Both roads and pathways. The streets are quite clean due to the efforts of the parish and Mid Sussex councils. Please bring: Picture ID Strong Boots Gloves Hat Long Trousers or take the consequences if you are in shorts! Water bottle - complete with water Snacks We will aim to be out for 2-3 hours but if you can only manage 30 minutes, that's ok You will be provided with hi-viz vests, litterpickers, and bags Meet at Hassocks station - East side in the front of the Hassocks pub. 10AM We will finish with refreshments somewhere. Six community minded spirits met near the station and picked throughout the town centre. A lot of litter was recovered from the station areas as well as roadsides near the main (Keymer) Road. Overall we were pleasantly surprised by how clean Hassocks is. Well done Mid Sussex Council! Nevertheless we accumulated 5 bin bags of rubbish.

If society had given up fast food and smoking we would only have had one small bag. Most surprising finds of the day: A Ten Pound note A full Ladies handbag containing purse, passport, mobile etc. On returning it to the (hungover) owner barely a murmur of thanks was received!! The above were not connected!! .

Collie Collections
Currently most of the work is done by my Border Collie who collects crisp and other wrappers and plastic bottles. She then finds the nearest waste bin and puts the litter in it. She has been doing this for the past 5 years.

Broadstairs Town Team Ltd
We have come together to do positive things, where we can see ways we can help, to make our town even better than we already know it is. We love Broadstairs. We know that most of the people who live here do too and that visitors often fall in love with it from the moment they arrive. It's a great place. But nowhere is perfect and let's face it, if it was it would be boring. We're always thinking of new ideas of things we can do that will make a positive difference and address some of the issues and challenges our town faces. Our aim therefore : Make Broadstairs an even nicer place to work in, live in or visit.

Bloomin' Bentham
A gathering of volunteers who meet in the painted bus shelter in High Bentham at 1pm on 13th of each month. We spend an hour or so litter-picking, weeding, planting or generally clearing up around our market town. We also put pressure on the Town Council or District Council when we come across something that we need to tackle in partnership with a larger, more official body.
