Bearpark Big Spring Clean - March 2016

Durham,DH7 7AG

19 Mar 2016

00:00

The Bearpark Big Spring Clean will tie in with Durham County Council's Big Spring Clean initiative. Volunteers and Parish Council representatives will meet outside the Primary School at 10 a.m. where we will return to the location of our very first litter pick along the Colliery Road area of Bearpark, this will include the play area and around the local Primary School. The Parish Council often received complaints about littering in the village and the Big Spring Clean is an ideal opportunity to help raise awareness of the problem and take some positive community action. We look forward to seeing you there. Refreshments will be served afterwards in Bearpark Community Centre at Institute Terrace. Please let us know if you intend on coming along. 18 volunteers turned out for our litter pick on 19 March 2016. It was a brilliant effort and we managed to amass 30 sacks of rubbish in the hour.

We all did our bit to make the Colliery Road area of Bearpark a lot tidier and it really did make a difference. We managed to engage with a few people out walking their dogs who expressed an interest in attending future litter picks, so we might even have some new volunteers on board for next time. Tea and cakes were on offer at the Community Centre afterwards as a thank you to everyone who took part. .

Middlewich Clean Team
The Middlewich Clean Team was set up with the basic intention of keeping our town litter free. However we now do much more as we have an education programme working in all of our schools and pre-school groups and have carried out a number of environmental projects. We have a small committee and well over 100 members. Litter picking is undertaken by all members, either by joining a group litter pick or simply by keeping an area litter free. We have also worked with Government Departments on controlling ant-social behaviour and very recently, several of our members qualified as Community Crime Fighters and have been involved in the restorative justice system. We help set up other Clean Teams nationally and are the Mother Clean Team to some of the other organisations included on this site.
