Keep Fleet Tidy

Rubbish disposal and fly tipping is becoming an increasing problem nationally compounded by reduced services across the counties. Many communities are taking it upon themselves to get out and tidy up their local areas by grabbing a bag and a litter picker and spending an hour or so in their immediate local area picking up discarded rubbish. If you are interested in meeting up once a month then please come along on the third Saturday, and together we can make a difference to rubbish and fly tipping in our area. All equipment is provided, including ‘kids kits’ so that children can participate safely too. We meet at 10am at the Gamston Village Hall and are out for a maximum of 2 hours. The monthly litter picking is in Gamston but the equipment is available for all residents of the villages of Adbolton, Bassingfield, Gamston and Holme Pierrepont to use.

We are a rural Scout group comprising of beavers cubs and scouts totaling about 100 children plus adult volunteers. Age range 6 - 15 years old. We take from approximately 13 villages in and around the Stockbridge Area. We are passionate about working with educating the young people and teaching them how to enjoy the outdoors

I am sick of going into the countryside and finding people have dumped there crap, ie Car Tyres, beds, car seats, cookers, and other crap. I would like to be able to stop this happening but I know that will be hard so I am happy to make it difficult for people.

Durham's coastline is unique. Nowhere else in Britain has such a wonderful display of magnesian limestone coastal grasslands supporting a vast array of wildflowers and insects. Most of the coast is now designated as a National Nature Reserve with several Sites of Special Scientific Interest. The England Coast Path runs through the area and is becoming evermore popular with visitors. The beaches are improving after the impact of coal mining and coastal towns such as Seaham have seen a dramatic increase in tourism. The beaches still suffer from litter and are regularly cleaned by groups of keen volunteers. If you would like to join in please see the upcoming event section for more details. We can support groups who want to carry out their own event by supplying equipment (bags, litterpickers, gloves etc) and organising the safe collection and disposal of the rubbish bags after the event. Erdington Litter Busters was founded in June 2018 by Rob Gunnell. The idea was to start cleaning up Erdington bit by bit, then grow into a community of volunteers who could keep the area clean. Now we have some support, and a growing group of us meet up twice a month on Saturday mornings near Six Ways island, clear different areas, and have a friendly coffee afterwards. The more people that help us, the greater the difference we can make - and people are already seeing the area improving.

We periodically organise group litter picks around the Purbrook and Widley areas, including in local woodland. The aim of the Adopt a Grot Spot campaign is for individual residents to tackle litter in areas not routinely cleared by the Council.

We are a revitalised 'clean-up' group of some 20 years' standing which incorporated collaboration with other agencies such as the Environment Agency, TCV, Highways and Groundwork as well as improving communication with our LA, local farmers and schools. Our aims broadened to include two new elements, namely education on litter and LA backed health walks. The latter has enabled people to enjoy our rural pathways, which are now regularly litter-picked, and at the same time build up their stamina in walking for health. In 2011, through fundraising, we were able to purchase two community notice boards to further publicise local events and amenities and our aims. We were very grateful to Groundwork Merseyside for installing them. It continues to be very satisfying to see people reading the notices displayed there and to see some new helpers on our litter-picks and new walkers on our health walks as a result. Both noticeboards were renovated this year, 2018 with help from a grant from Cronton Parish Council, for which we thank them. Our LA, Knowsley MBC, has always been supportive but In recent years, due to funding cuts to LAs we have had reduced contact with them, although they continue to help us by removing the bags of litter we collect on our biannual litter picks. We forged links with one of our neighbouring LAs, Halton, with a view to liaising on littering of our border areas. They provided us with litter-pickers and bags.
