Georgina Fletcher (Trustee)

Georgina Fletcher (Trustee) is the Project Officer for BioImagingUK, a community network that represents life scientists who work with microscopes.  Previously, she has worked as a post-doctoral research scientist at several of Europe’s top research institutes including the Francis Crick Institute, Cancer Research UK and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg where she studied how epithelial cells polarise their axes.

In her spare time, Georgina continues to be community-minded and in 2016, together with other local residents, she set up a Friends group to represent her local green space, Friends of Bruce Castle Park in Tottenham, London. To foster connections between the members of the group and to improve the cleanliness of the park, her group have done a monthly litter pick for a (potentially) record-breaking 40 months in a row! This was made possible by the fantastic work of CleanupUK. Now, Georgina would like to give something back and has become a CleanupUK Trustee.  She passionately believes that the natural environment has a major influence on mental well being and behaviour. By doing something as simple as picking up litter, especially in a deprived area of London such as Tottenham, the impact on other residents can be huge. Not only this, it gives the Friends group a great excuse to do something worthwhile and rewarding, and the social hour after the litter pick has become as important as the litter pick itself!
