Since 2017, CleanupUK has been working in Birmingham through its ‘Beautiful Birmingham Project’ helping over 1,650 local volunteers to form 62 volunteer litter-picking groups across the area. In 2022, we’ll be joining forces with Green Spacers, a collaboration of volunteer group leads whose members actively and directly participate in cleaning up streets and green spaces in Birmingham, to help connect communities and tackle litter.

"You don’t have to be a hardcore environmentalist to recognise that litter is a problem in the UK."

‘Beautiful Birmingham’, encourages voluntary litter-picking activity to strengthen deprived areas and to make and keep them cleaner and ultimately, safer. CleanupUK has helped those who are most in need to combat the litter problem in their area. Litter-picking is an activity that brings communities closer together, enables neighbours to meet each other, and create a greater sense of pride in local areas.

CleanupUK, through a partnership with Green Spacers, will support groups carrying out their activities. The partnership will allow CleanupUK to strengthen our ties with local volunteers and facilitate community-led transformation in the area.
