In response to the increased litter levels as lock-down rules start to be lifted, some of you have told us that you are ready to start litter-picking again. We also know that many of you are still not comfortable to litter-pick again yet.  We do not in any way want to make anyone feel as though they should be back out there if they are not ready. However, we DO want to support anyone who is choosing to litter-pick right now.  You can now meet outside in a group of up to 30 people.  Please see the Government guidelines for further details https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus

Currently most of the work is done by my Border Collie who collects crisp and other wrappers and plastic bottles. She then finds the nearest waste bin and puts the litter in it. She has been doing this for the past 5 years.

DORSET DEVILS
Dorset Devils are a group of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole residents who volunteer their free time to clear litter from where they live as well as nearby parks and our beautiful beaches. We each look after our own patch and hope to encourage others to manage their own litter. We are 490+ in number and still growing. We want Dorset to be as litter free as possible but that means everyone needs to play their part for this to happen. Fresh air, gentle exercise guaranteed and some equipment available. Do as much or as little picking as you like and choose the time and place suitable for you, eIther on your own, with someone else or with the Dorset Devils. View this site for details of upcoming events. You are welcome to join us and then you can look after your own patch, whenever it suits you. Always your choice where, when and how long. Help make a difference where you live, play and relax. Bournemouth Borough Council and Bournemouth University fully support our efforts. We support environmental organisations including Marine Conservation Society and Surfer Against Sewage and we are part of Litter Free Dorset. We are active within the community and get involved in a variety of community initiatives including activities with primary school children and scout packs. We are more than just litter pickers as we hope to raise awareness and engage, wherever possible. Follow us on DD Facebook, Twitter and interact through our website. dorsetdevils.org N.B. Bredon Hill
To keep Bredon Hill surrounds litter free, targetting roads between villages initially on an ad hoc basis ... a worthy mission. Up to now over 50 bags in 3 years, a paced delivery :)

WeeleyWombleys
Part of the Weeley Residents Association. We started up about 10 months after the Association was formed, as so many residents had expressed their concerns about the amount of litter around the area. We have several take-aways in the area, and the detritus was mounting up so much Tendring District Council couldn't keep on top of it. We litter pick once a month, every first Monday morning, and there is usually a hard-core of about 10 residents who pick regularly. We also encourage residents to keep their frontages as clear of rubbish as possible and the area has seemed a lot tidier since we started. We are hoping to go into the local School wearing our home-made WeeleyWombley costumes in the next few weeks, together with McDonalds, to encourage the primary school children to litter pick, and to take their litter home with them, encouraging their parents/families to do the same.

Sopwell Litter Pickers
Hi, I'm Holly and I'm starting out litter picking to help make the area I live in cleaner and more attractive. I walk to work some days and I always marvel at how much rubbish there is, especially after bin collection days and it stays on the streets for weeks, so I wanted to do something about it! Alone but hopefully not for long, I have started picking litter in my area to make it a cleaner and more enjoyable place for everyone. I hope as I get more experience at this I can rally together the troops to start a regular litter picking group to help out and clean up Sopwell! If you'd be interested in joining me, you can send me an email to meet up and arrange a litter picking date. Tel. 07857 944 443 Email. Cleanupsopwell@outlook.com

Clean Up Devizes Squad
CUDS was formed primarily to litter pick around our town and its environs. We do so about 4 times a month for 2 hours each time and then have a cup of tea and the all-important biscuits. We also strip useless bits of turf off areas, dig over, plant bulbs and sow wildflower seeds which we maintain on 2 roundabouts and various other places. At present we have about 28 members. We are not a charity - we are funded by grants for which I apply and have back-up from Dervizes Town Council's Park and Open Spaces team when we can't shift all the stuff we have collected ourselves. When we started over 3 years ago, we were viewed with some suspicion - as in 'Are you all doing Community Payback?' and so forth - interesting to think that a great group of oldies would be doing that! Now, in our bright blue hivis vests emblazed with CUDS on the back, nearly everybody knows who we are - and if they don't, they must have been asleep. We work with local groups - Beavers, the Canoe Club, The Lions at their Fair and recently with The Fulltone Orchestra at their free event in the Market Place. We are also planning our reward - apart from cake, which we have before our summer and Christmas breaks. This time we are going on a day out to visit various gardens in Somerset - it's great to be sociable and many have made firm friends within our group.
