Pickmere Against Plastic clean up morning

IROS pavillion,Mere Lane,Pickmere,WA160LS

01 Jun 2019

23:00

The aim is to collect litter from around the village and tray to involve the community in moving ourselves towards a plastic free community. This is being run by PAP as part of their initiatives. Starting in the Red Lion pub who are supplying breakfast to all involved (tea, coffee, bacon and pastries) we aim to divide into teams and clean up the whole village. A really successful morning. It started with bacon and pastries at the Red Lion pub and then we divided into seven teams covering all the areas of Pickmere. About 50 volunteers attended and collected 26 bin bags of rubbish and a vacuum cleaner. Finishing off with another cut of tea at the pub. Thanks to all who got involved from Sam at the Red lion and his team to the families and friends of the village who gave up their morning to improve their village environment..

Allington Alligators
As from October 2021, we will be operating as normal and resuming our monthly organised litterpicks in the Allington area. These usually take place on a Sunday morning starting at 10am for an hour or so at a venue advertised on the events section. We generally follow our litterpick in a local cafe for a chat and refreshments. We are a small friendly group of like-minded individuals who care about our local environment and want to keep it clean and tidy. If you are interested in joining us then do please get in touch and give us a try - new members are always welcome. All equipment is provided.

Whitehead Wombles
Whitehead Wombles are a small group of people from the town of Whitehead who got fed up looking at the amount of litter on our streets and hedgerows and decided to do something about it. We only have a few members but we are committed to keeping the level of litter in the town to a minimum and hope that people will see us and think twice about dropping their litter. We are supplied with bags, gloves and pickers by our local council and last Oct we won an award for our coastal care work. Our aim is to educate people in the detrimental effects of littering and to work with as many groups within the town to co ordinate our efforts. We had a community clean up on Sunday 18th Sept 2011as part of the national Beach watch Weekend and received support of local groups and churches so for one day at least we had a litter free town. We lifted over 30 bags and had forty people of all ages turn out to help. This proved so successful that many of those involved wanted to run it on a quarterly basis so we'll see what we can do If anyone wants to set up a group and needs advice then contact us or follow our progress at the Brighter Whitehead site.
