Friends of Riverside Park Newhaven

Friends of Riverside Park was set up following a failed attempt to build a water park on the land which is owned by East Sussex County Council & Lewes District Council and now known as Riverside Park, Newhaven. The site was up until the late 1970s/early 1980s a landfill site for the town. Once the site was full to capacity it was capped and left to nature. We now have a wonderful array of wildlife and recently funds were spent by the local Councils to make improvements including a properly laid circular path, benches dotted around the park, a bird viewing platform, owl nest box and various hibernacula and scrapes. Scrub has been managed to improve the quality of the soil. All this has been done with the help and assistance of the Friends of Riverside Park who work as a go-between the Community who use the Park and the Councils. As part of our ongoing support we organise monthly litter picks to safeguard the natural environment & are making other small improvements to the area including more litter bins and hopefully seating.

Hawth Ushers

We are a group of Ushers at the Hawth Theatre here in Crawley fed up with the disgusting mess left in the auditorium, after some of the shows. Recently we had new carpets and seating installed but despite this the litter and even chewing gum on seats is as bad as ever.

North West London Clean Up

If you're reading this you're probably already aware that there is a serious litter problem and something must be done! As well as solo daily pickings while walking the dogs, I'm also organising various community clean-ups, mostly a monthly one at the Welsh Harp. Fishponds Clean Streets

Fishponds Clean Streets was established in 2016 and is run by a few volunteers with the aim of helping keep the streets cleaner of litter. There was an extended period owing to COVID restrictions when we were not able to operate, however we are back up and running again now. We usually meet for an hour and a half on a Saturday morning once a month and always publicise our litter picks here on this page, where we also report on our activity after each litter pick. Thanks to those who joined in on Sat 5th Feb and to Rachel for coming along with her family. Between us we collected 7 sacks of rubbish and 6 of recyclables. We hope to meet again in March, so do keep an eye on this page for updates! Winchester Litterpickers

Winchester Litter Pickers were founded in 1995 when three people decided to do more about the litter problem in and around the City. Currently (December 2021) we have over 40 active volunteers and many more supporters. We think it is especially important to give visitors to Winchester a good impression of the City. During the summer months we tidy the Outer Close of the Cathedral daily in the late afternoon and on Monday mornings throughout the year we clear the approaches to the railways station. Twice a month on Wednesday mornings we clear suburban areas in turn, concentrating on the streets and open spaces near the local shops and in particularly bad black spots. We are very much into recycling, recovering the cans, glass and plastic bottles we collect wherever practicable. We are also keen to limit the damaging effects of plastic litter. We are a very sociable group and normally meet up for hot drinks and chats after our litter picks. We also have a very popular annual party. You are very welcome to join any of our litter picks as a non-member, but please let us know in advance, so that we can bring along a spare litter grabber if necessary.
