ASDA KETTERING "GIVING BACK BY TAKING AWAY" 1 TON CHARITY LITTER PICK 1ST Mini-Event

Northfield Avenue,Kettering,nn16 9hu

29 Sep 2014

23:00

To kick off the 1 Ton Children In Need charity pick this year, we'll be clearing the wooded area behind the Asda petrol station and then moving on to the Slade Brook green corridor along Northfield Avenue. Today's target is 50KG and hopefully I'll be able to make a big difference to the area, during the day's tidy up. This week at work, we've managed to raise over £300 so far for the Pudsy campaign, thanks to the ever-generous support of colleagues at Asda on Northfield Avenue. 2014 1 Ton sponsored litter pick for Children In Need Nights colleagues at Asda in Kettering have taken up the challenge to collect a massive 1000KG or 1 Metric Ton of litter and flytipped refuse from the local area. After the success of last years 1 Ton pick, which raised £200 for BBC Children In Need, we have already had £307 pledged by our amazingly generous colleagues at the Northfield Avenue store.

The pictures show the fantastic results of the maiden pick of the 6 week event, seeing us collect 85KG during 5 hours of picking from the Slade brook green corridor. A huge amount of plastic and material that is dangerous to wildlife has been removed from this beautiful natural environment, thanks to our colleague's hard work. The next pick will see us clearing the woodland which encircles our store, with volunteers from our nights team, working on their days off, to raise much needed money for Children In Need. .

Middlewich Clean Team
The Middlewich Clean Team was set up with the basic intention of keeping our town litter free. However we now do much more as we have an education programme working in all of our schools and pre-school groups and have carried out a number of environmental projects. We have a small committee and well over 100 members. Litter picking is undertaken by all members, either by joining a group litter pick or simply by keeping an area litter free. We have also worked with Government Departments on controlling ant-social behaviour and very recently, several of our members qualified as Community Crime Fighters and have been involved in the restorative justice system. We help set up other Clean Teams nationally and are the Mother Clean Team to some of the other organisations included on this site.

Coventry Canal
I am an individual who walks part of the Coventry canal to and from work everyday. I have only been walking along the canal since October 2017 despite being a Coventrian my entire life! It is the city's best kept secret and so peaceful and calm away from crowds and cars. But it makes me angry and sad to see such a beautiful habitat ruined with litter so I started picking litter! I usually pick on my way to/from work in the week but I plan to do more at the weekends and travel further to notoriously messy parts of the canal. If anyone would care to join me to make a difference and tidy up for the animals and all of us to enjoy, please get in touch :) Thank you, Jennysha P.S. There is now a new Canal & River Trust Towpath Taskforce which runs on Thursday mornings - please see CRT website for more info. Give as much or as little time as you can :) Please report any flytipping via: 1) website: fixmystreet.com 2) email: enquiries.westmidlands@canalrivertrust.org.uk
